Writers living on Vancouver Island and the northern and southern Gulf Islands are once again invited to enter the Islands Short Fiction Contest, now in its 13th year.
Entries of up to 2000 words are accepted in three categories: Adult (writers 19 and over), Youth (writers 13 to 18), and Junior (writers 12 and under). The contest is co-sponsored by the Nanaimo Arts Council, the Vancouver Island Regional Library, and the Vancouver Island University Department of Creative Writing and Journalism.
Over $2000 in cash and prizes will be awarded.
Judge of the adult category for 2018 is award-winning Victoria author and former VIU Creative Writing instructor Marilyn Bowering. VIRL librarians Jennifer Seper and Julie Carter will judge the Junior and Youth categories. The winner of the Youth category will be offered publication in the anthology In Our Own Voice – 2018 from Rebel Mountain Press.
The entry deadline is March 30, 2018. Entry forms, including contest guidelines and details, are available via the link below and at all branches of the Vancouver Island Regional Library.
A $20 fee is charged per adult entry. There is no fee for the youth and junior categories. Winners will be announced at a presentation in Nanaimo in April.
